What Is X-Hale?
X-Hale is an ongoing series of dystopian fiction set within a parallel universe to our own. Familiar pieces of our world remain, but history, culture, technology, society, and even humanity itself have taken different paths.
The Chronicles begin in Lorna in 2034, where civilization has not ended. It has mutated. Technology advances alongside extreme inequality, violence, exploitation, biological modification, chemical alteration, and a growing uncertainty around what it even means to be human.
At the center of the opening saga is Angie Maxx, an antihero and femme fatale with no clear memory of her life before Lorna. Her past survives only in traumatic flashes she cannot yet understand. Through Angie, X-Hale begins close to the ground, visceral, violent, intimate, and horror-driven. But the deeper the Chronicles travel, the larger and stranger the universe becomes.
X-Hale is ultimately built to expand beyond any single character, location, or genre. The Chronicles provide room for different characters and corners of the universe to take the foreground as its larger story unfolds.
Before X-Hale existed on the page, it existed through performance.
Its earliest roots emerged from creator FN Stone’s live and filmed cosplay, where new original characters were regularly created for individual appearances. Angie was different. First appearing as Anjelicka, she returned again, and then again. What began as separate performances gradually revealed a character with continuity, history, relationships, and a world forming around her.
By 2021, that realization had ignited something much larger. Character relationships created for cosplay began feeding into written stories, while the writing inspired new performances in return. Over an intense period of worldbuilding, characters, biographies, relationships, lore, plots, sagas, locations, histories, and long-term story arcs poured into what was then known as The Maxx Universe.
The live performances, filmed stories, music-driven character pieces, and related material became collectively known as The Maxx Experience. Angie stood at its center, while existing characters were drawn into her world and new ones were created around it.
That era also left behind a substantial digital footprint. Years of performances, imagery, music, videos, livestreams, and character material remain part of X-Hale’s creative history. As the Chronicles move into publication, pieces of that archive can return in new context as part of the companion experience surrounding the books.
For years, the growing world surrounding Angie Maxx was known simply as The Maxx Universe. Its stories continued developing beyond the original performances, with new characters, histories, conflicts, and future sagas taking shape long after that first explosion of worldbuilding in 2021.
The name X-Hale arrived later. It carried an existing connection to The Maxx Experience, where the word and its musical origins had already become part of the atmosphere surrounding Angie and her live performances. By approximately 2024, X-Hale had become the official name for the larger body of work.
The name also came to embody one of the threads running throughout the Chronicles: breath. To exhale can mean survival, relief, surrender, or the final breath into death. Life, death, mortality, and immortality remain recurring questions throughout X-Hale, even as its stories move between dystopian horror, the supernatural, science fiction, and worlds still waiting to be revealed.
The X-Hale Chronicles are now becoming the linear spine of the universe, beginning with Chronicle I: The Red Vice. The books provide a lasting home for the larger narrative while leaving room for individual characters and interconnected stories to move into the foreground as the series expands.
Around that spine lives the companion experience. Original music and soundtracks, visual works, character lore, archived cosplay and performances, the interactive E-Magazine, and other media can deepen the worlds found within the books.
Some of that material is new. Some has been waiting for years.
X-Hale Universe is where those pieces can finally meet.
FN Stone, also known as Miss Maddusa Stone, is the creator and architect behind X-Hale. Long before its characters reached the page, she embodied many of them herself through cosplay, filmed performances, and years of character-driven livestreams.
Her approach to storytelling grew from something deeply personal: turning darkness into art. Trauma, grief, rage, survival, humor, sexuality, imagination, and lived experience became raw material for characters and worlds. Through performance, she developed their personalities, visual identities, histories, relationships, musical tastes, and even the songs that seemed to belong to them.
That process also created community. The characters became a place to experiment, escape, connect, and transform difficult experiences into something others could enter and experience alongside her.
For years, Stone gave herself physically to that form of storytelling, sometimes pushing her body beyond what it could sustainably maintain. As the live-performance era changed, the work did not disappear with it. The medium simply began to evolve.
Today, the X-Hale Chronicles carry that vision forward in a form built to last. The performances, music, imagery, archives, and digital footprint remain part of its history, while the books open the door to everything that comes next.
The performance became a world. Now, the world becomes the story.
